PROTECTED & WILDLIFE ZONES
Diversified wildlife protected zones place Iran among world's top tourist sites. Iran is home to different types of wildlife, which makes it necessary to provide special protected zones for them there. Among the most important such zones, reference should be made to Dena Wildlife Protected Zones, Boyer Ahmad, Jahan Nama Protected Zone, Gorgan, Kavir (Desert) National Park and Wildlife, Qom, and Tondureh National Park, Quchan.

DENA WILDLIFE PROTECTED ZONES, BOYER AHMAD
One of the most beautiful natural areas of the province is the Dena protected Zone. It has the privilege of having a vegetation and animal species. This region is mountainous area with high summits, tall faces and deep valleys. In the eastern part of Dena, there is the historical bottleneck of Bijan. The northern, western and southern frontiers of this area are surrounded by the Marir and Besha Rivers. Dena Mountains forms the axis of several water reserves from rivers in addition to various with lots of springs on the various slopes of these mountains. This vicinity is rich regarding vegetation for therapeutic use and consumption. Some of these trees are Kikom, sand, wild plum and oak trees. The Dena Bird Park is very famous here. Wildlife such as the brown bear, types of eagles, leopards, wolves many species of wild cats, falcons, partridges, etc. can be observed in this protected zone.

JAHAN NAMA PROTECTED ZONE, GORGAN
This area is situated in the southern heights of Gorgan and the southeast of Kord Kooy. In 1973, it was claimed as a protected place with 30,650 hectares in area. This region was a recreational area for people of Gorgan and its nearby villages. Some important regions like Torkat, Chalestan, Cholqoleh, Aq Reza, Chakel Geda, Landeh Kooh, Talou, Khoshdasti, Landou and Maqzi, are around this protected area. The most important varieties of wildlife are: wild goat, wild sheep, vension, panther, wolf, beer, owl, eagle, shoulca, weasel, and porcupine and its important plants are: Rosh, Azad, Barberry, Sorkhdar, Kolahe Mir Hassan, Bolandmaza Namdar, Borage Cowslipe, Ras, and Darmaneh. The most important rivers and springs of this protected place are:
Sefid Rood, Tarkan, Mahzi, Chaar Baq, Ziyarat, Marsang, Sbumargah, Shahpasand, Haji Abad, Gachian, Mord Cheshmeh, Vara, Khosh Dasti, Kalichal, Qormehtou, Pazeebon. Ancient relics of the said area are: water tank, ancient center of Kamarsarak and Jelingbling, Imamzadeh Razi and Marzieh, and the tower western of Radkan.
KAVIR (DESERT) NATIONAL PARK & WILDLIFE, QOM
A section of Qom province, specially the vicinity of the Qamar Rood village lies within the limits of the National Desert Park. The same is almost a virgin area, with valuable specimens of wildlife and various herbal species in the country. The Kavir National Park is an example of desert and arid type ecosystems. Its scanty rainfall has given rise to some herbal species which have adapted to and withstand the existing conditions. Wildlife species have also in an outstanding and surprising manner have accustomed themselves to the meager resources, and their preservation has aided them greatly to increase in number. From the aspect of a survey on the desert ecosystem and the identification of adaptation mechanisms of herbal and wildlife species to these surroundings, the Kavir National Park can be said to be such an area of survey. The vegetation covering of this park in the plains and mountainous regions, are suitable refuges for various species of wildlife. TONDUREH NATIONAL PARK, QUCHAN
Located between the towns of Daregaz and Quchan, this park has an area of 57.000 hectares out of which 20,000 hectares can be claimed to be protected area. It is under interest due to rich natural resources and wildlife. This area is near the borders of the Republic of Turkmenistan. --irna
